Guesthouse

The eco-friendly wooden guesthouse has been built by hand with much love, dedication and a lot of help from our friends. We have used local and environmentally friendly materials as much as possible as well as sustainable energy and sanitary solutions. The comfortable and cozy rooms with the big wooden terrace in front all have a beautiful view of the tranquil green valley and its river (running in winter season). You can chill out in one of the comfy seats on the terrace or find yourself ‘hammocking’ while enjoying the view.

The guesthouse can be rented throughout the year (contact us for availability). There are three bedrooms; the first two rooms have one double bed or two single beds. The third room is a bit bigger and can be booked as one double- or four single bedrooms. There is a shared toilet and bathroom with original Moroccan details.

The kitchen is fully equipped and in front, you can enjoy your meals at a long dining table under the bamboo roof. During retreats, our chef will prepare healthy vegetarian and vegan meals for you, prepared with fresh, local, biological ingredients from the season.

Yurt

The original Mongolian yurt is the heart of our retreat space. Practice your yoga or enjoy your workshop in this colorful round space, sheltered from wind, sun, and rain. The inside of the yurt is light and spacious with a wooden floor and windows in the top and front. We can fit a maximum of 16 yoga mats in the yurt. In wintertime, a wood burner keeps it warm. There is a second practice space on one of the surrounding hills, with a beautiful view over the valley. This wooden platform is an open space that fits over 20 yoga mats, with a ´canas´ (local cane) rooftop.

Tipi Village

Experience our valley while you lay down in your comfortable bed and listen to the sound of cicadas and the beautiful song of the nightingale. Enjoy the bonfire under the sky full of stars, while relaxing in the lounge seat in front of your tipi.

The tipi village includes 5 tipis built up in a circle around the yurt. Each tipi has a double bed/ two single beds. Around the corner, you will find warm showers, washbasins, and toilets.

The land

The land covers 7 hectares of green valley. When you enter Val Verde through the gate, the first thing you will notice is a fruit tree garden with a swimming pool. A perfect place to cool off on hot days or to have a siesta under the almond tree. There is a veggie garden too and opposite on the hill our wooden family house. The river that crosses the land is marked by a hedge of canas (local cane) and leads you to the back of the land where the guesthouse and tipi village is built. Val Verde is located totally off-grid; we use solar power for electricity, we have a borehole for water and use eco-toilets as the sanitary solution.

Nature is all around, the surrounding hills grow cork oaks and wild herbs, there are so many special birds living in this area and -because we have no neighbors or light nearby- you´ll see the most beautiful night skies full of stars.

Activities

Besides retreats, at Val Verde we organize various activities throughout the year, such as yoga classes, kirtan and diverse body work/ massage treatments: don´t hesitate to contact us for more information!

Surroundings

There are various activities to do around our eco-lodge. Val Verde is surrounded by many hiking trails like the well-known long-distance trail Rota Vicentina. The area around the lodge is -besides walking- also great for mountain biking or horse riding. We are close to both South- and West coast beaches, so if you like to go for a surf, there is always a surf spot nearby that works.

It’s beautiful to walk over the cliffs with stunning views of the wild west coast or just relax at the tranquil south coast beaches. When you drive past Sagres at 20 minutes drive, you have reached the southwest end of Europe; you´re at Cabo de San Vicente- the starting point of rota Vicentina. Just half an hour’s drive from Val Verde is harbor-town Lagos with the old city center that’s worth a visit or Aljezur with its castle and some beautiful beaches like Monte Clerico beach nearby. Last but not least we have the highest mountain of the Algarve Monchique (902 meters) around the corner, where you can visit the hot springs, enjoy the panorama or go chasing one of the many hidden waterfalls in the area.
